Would you like know how “GREEN” your country is? Or how green other countries are, how much CO2 the world has emitted since 1997 (i.e., the base year), what the trends are, and so on and so forth. I hope you do. Never mind what the answer will be like; whether one is a Greenpeace activist, a climate change skeptic, or an undecided, this little application, Green Map has something for everybody. Firstly, with the assistance of technologies: Silverlight and Bing Map Silverlight, countries’ green information is presented in such a manner that its supposed messages cannot be mistaken (I hope). While heat map, graph, and the likes are powerful tools for data visualization, they can be too sophisticated for some parts of the world population. Especially, for general public awareness attraction purpose, there is in need a simple straight forward quote of “Greeness” so that people across the globe would understand. In light of that thinking, Green Map prototype calculates Energy Efficiency Rating (EER) of zero to five (five for the greenest) based on data published by UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) and lays them out neatly. Next to each country’s calculated EER is a movie rating style allowing people to cast their own votes on green matters. Beyond the abstract EER rating for each of the 40 countries in the database, Green Map also offers users with intermediate (hover effect) and advanced (click-for-more) level of details. Enough talking, it’s time to see Green Map in action. In addition to the hosting of Green Map in Silverlight Show’s gallery, a live demo of Green Map is also available at http://www.aiviet.com/GreenMap/GreenMap.html
